will take you to the clock tower close to the beach and the town.

What more could you want for a day out with the family?  Skegness has everything.  Once branded ‘Skegness it’s bracing’ Skegness got a reputation a being an old fashioned seaside town with little to offer.  But Skegness continues to develop and improve itself. For a start it’s level which makes it great for pushchairs and wheelchairs.  Even access to the huge sandy beach is just a step off the promenade with no steps.

The pier has free deckchairs – just help yourself and sit back and relax.

Skegness is very clean and well kept and it seems to have escaped the usual seagull population explosion.  There aren’t the usual seagull attacks on the unwary leaving you to enjoy your pasties or ice cream.

There are the usual beach goods shops and an abundance of ice cream stalls with an increasing variety of flavours.  Fast food stalls sell everything from a hot dog to shellfish.  There are amusement arcades but not too many and a pleasure beach that’s big enough to satisfy the fast ride hungry teenager but not too big as to take over the whole day.

The town has a variety of good shops and places to eat and there are supermarkets at the end of the main street.

There are boats to hire on the lake and donkey rides on the beach.  Every variety of crazy golf and a lovely playground for both little children and bigger ones with zip wires and climbing frames for the brave.  Despite all this Skegness isn’t a loud and rowdy place.

There is ample car parking along the front and additional car parking at the top of the town.

There is a truly wonderful model village to explore.

If it gets too hot – which it often does – younger children can cool off in the brand new splash zone at the Fairy Dell whilst Go-Karts will keep the older family members entertained.

If the weather isn’t too good there’s the Natureland Centre with rescued seals, aquariums, butterfly house and lots of other animals such as meerkats and alpacas.  There’s also the brand new Skegness Aquarium Centre with sharks, octopus and a huge variety of fish.

So with Butlins and Fantasy Island just outside the town, lots of big caravan parks and many hotels and guest houses there is a Skegness for all ages and all budgets.

And as for ‘bracing’ well Skegness is situated on the more sheltered east side of the country where the weather is generally drier and warmer.

If you haven’t visited Skegness since you were a child give it another go you’ll be surprised at what you find.
