PictureUK is not intended to be a guide to Britain it is our guide to places in Britain that we have visited and enjoyed that we hope will provide ideas and inspiration for your own travels and days out.
Britain is a lovely island. The temperate climate keeps it lush and green and although the sun can’t be guaranteed to shine summer temperatures are warm enough to ensure nature thrives and the harvest is plentiful.
Scotland in the north of Britain is often considered as being wild and untamed and in many places it is and the many lochs and castles and the stunning scenery make it quite breathtaking. But it also has some amazing cities filled with culture and charm. Edinburgh is probably one of the best known of these. With it’s numerous festivals, a castle and the mediaeval old town together with theatres and museums Edinburgh is a place to stay and enjoy culinary delights from world class restaurants or experience the warmest of welcomes in the numerous cafes and bars.
The south coast of Britain is fringed by the warm waters of the English Channel. The climate here is generally milder and in sheltered spots tender tropical plants grow all year round.
Tourism is an important and major income to many parts of this region and therefore there is an abundance of attractions aimed at visitors.
In between the extremes of the north and south is a country divided into regions each one different to the other providing an individual experience to everyone.
The beauty of the Yorkshire Dales with dry stone walls, lush farmland and amazing views. Great for walkers or just for enjoying a picnic. The North York Moors with its steam railway on which you can travel from Pickering to Whitby – probably the most famous of the East Coast towns with cobbled streets and the well known Whitby Abbey – the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. In summer and autumn the Goth festival takes place when the streets become filled with visitors and locals dressed in a variety of colourful and eye catching costumes.
The north of England has the seaside town of Blackpool which near the end of the year becomes a festival of lights when the streets are lit by a glittering display of decorations known as the Blackpool Illuminations.
Britain has so much to offer and I hope you will see in the ever growing pages of this site that there is much to love and enjoy.
